Hungary has been for centuries a nation of great winemaking traditions, thanks to the many grape varieties, the advanced techniques of wine making of sweet wines and a wine ancient law.

The oldest wine region in Hungary is near Sárospatak (river melmoso) and Sátoraljaújhely. Here there is the area of origin of Tokaji or Tokay, or Tokaj.
Tokaji (Hungarian: of Tokaj) is the name of the wines from the region of Tokaj-Hegyalja in Hungary. The name Tokaji (which is of Protected Designation of Origin) is used to label wines from this wine district. This region is noted for its sweet wines made from grapes affected by noble rot, a style of wine which has a long history in this region.

The uniqueness of this wine comes from Bodrog and Tisza rivers: the fog that rose to counter heat determine the particular climatic conditions. The peculiarity of the soil, of volcanic origin, with high concentrations of iron and lime, the microclimate, the vines, the treatment, combined with an extraordinary tradition of many centuries, giving rise to a wine, once unique and famous throughout the world.
